tips for printers Another new feature for the
website and newsletter! “top tips” for printers and designers. We
hope that the “top tips” will help you, to help us, and limit possible
problems that can occur when producing Perfect Bound Books and Catalogues.
Use of sealants and varnish Sealants
and Varnish attack the adhesive properties of binding adhesives over a period
of time. We advise against the use of sealants on both text and covers within
a Perfect Bound book. It can act against the adhesive, reducing its’ effectiveness
and page strength. A book can look fine at the finishers and fall apart at a later
date. If for whatever reason a sealant is required, we recommend that you check
with the sealant manufacturer to make sure it is compatible with spine glue and
binding adhesives or leave gutters in the spine area of both text and covers to
allow the glue to adhere without the interference of varnish and sealants.
