Investment in Plant ...

After the purchase of the Muller Martini Tigra Perfect Binder last
year, we started this year with no immediate plans to invest further
in our plant. When the Tigra, an in line binder was installed we
continued to trim out of line on the SDY Three Knife trimmer (purchased
in July 1999). However the investment has once again paid off, with
Perfect Binding sales continuing to increase, particularly as we
are now picking up work from the medium run sector. When these Medium
Size jobs started to come through the door regularly, the decision
to purchase an in line trimmer to add onto the Tigra was made. Not
only to cut down on time and manpower but also to cut out some of
the heavy lifting and constant manual handling necessary to three
knife trim the perfect bound books. The Muller Martini in line trimmer
is now installed and in full working order. We now have more production
capacity as well as improving the well being of our staff.
You’re welcome to visit us and see the binding line in action,
just ring Julie or Frank on 01254 384008 to arrange an appointment
- or why not send an email!!.
Expansion at Point Control ...
Our storage facilities are also now increased since taking on an
additional unit; Unit 7, Enterprise Court, here on Huncoat Business
Park in April. This has lead to an improvement in our housekeeping
and working conditions, which were beginning to deteriorate due
to the increased workloads. Unit 7, now provides us with overflow
for storage of both finished and un-processed work, particularly
guillotining work which takes up quite a lot of room. The extra
unit has made room for the conveyor and the three knife trimmer
in the article above and gives us an option to expand our plant
further, without the upheaval of moving to new premises. Please
note that this unit is not staffed, so if you are visiting us you
need to report to reception at Unit 5. Julie's

some quotes while Julie was on leave, will provide quotations
when Julie or Frank are on holiday.

Both Julie and Andrew would like
to thank you for all your good wishes on the birth of Danielle,
who is pictured on her Christening Day the 3rd of June |
New Employee
In our Christmas newsletter, we reported that we had taken on
an extra employee. We were required to take on two to fulfil the
conditions of our DTI grant. We now confirm that a second position
has been created for a new folding operator, Kevin Jelley.
Staff Development
One of our aims is to have a multi skilled workforce. So, folding
operator Kevin and guillotine operator Paul Ryan have just been
to Muller Martini’s training academy, in Switzerland, where
they spent four days training on the Tigra Binding line.
Team Building
In October, our three directors and five production staff have
been booked on an outward bound training course in Horton in Ribblesdale;
look out for a report in the next issue of our newsletter.
Point Control Sponsor Young
Blues in two cup finals ...
Haslingden Junior Blues Under 7’s Football Team (pictured),
sponsored and supported by Point Control, have had a very successful
first competitive Season, making it to two cup finals in the space
of a few weeks, but unfortunately lost on both occasions:-
In the first they dropped to a 2-1 loss to
Lammack in the Blackburn and District League U-8 Cup Final. The
battling Blues, all younger than their counterparts, competed
with terrific spirit in a tough game and battled back from a goal
down. Alex Coleman pulled them level before hitting the bar with
a corner. But despite a spirited display they conceded a winner.

Man of the match
Thomas Berwick (pictured right) and Connor Reed worked tirelessly
while Josh Walker and James English performed with distinction.
Their second cup final, in a the AKZO NOBEL sponsored mini
tournament in Darwen, |
ended in a 3-0 defeat to a far superior Manchester
based Team. This final didn’t really give a true reflection
of the Blues impressive knockout stages of the tournament; in which,
they played 7 games, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 1.
